SUNSKY has pioneered in deploying AI-based technologies to detect illegal parking and warn drivers away across Taoyuan City, in a project by the city’s Department of Transportation. The system has been deployed at 12 bus loading zones, and law enforcement is currently under way.
Camera and various sensors are now installed above and beneath the bus zones, e.g. on street lamps, to detect violation, and the systems are connected to the city’s traffic control center on a real-time basis.
Taoyuan City Mayor CHENG Wen-tsan visited one site at Zhongli Train Station and evaluated system performance on December 24, 2018. CHENG believed that automated law enforcement would reduce the need for police force and the systems’ warning could better improve traffic flow. Taoyuan City is the first among other five mega cities in Taiwan that implemented the new technology, which effectively has brought down on-guard police personnel and the number of violations. Other cities are planning to follow suit.
